Earn Graduate-Level Professional Development Semester Units/Credits for Your Completion of Mindful Schools Courses or Workshops

Three Simple Steps

- Determine the number of credits you’re applying for, and the University of the Pacific courses titles which align with your Mindful Schools courses

Step 1: Get to know the policies of your school district
Get to know the policies of your school district regarding graduate-level professional growth courses, due dates, etc. Some districts require prior approval and some don’t. Districts vary in policy regarding whether or not they require Official Transcripts, and districts have different turn-in dates for salary advancement. It is your responsibility to know your own district’s policies regarding dates you must submit grade reports for salary advancement and regarding their policy in accepting grade reports versus formal transcripts. Please contact your personnel department for information.
It typically takes 6 – 8 weeks to obtain a transcript from the Registrar, so please plan to register for credit with Courses4Teachers Inc. with this time frame in mind.
Information to provide your district should you need prior approval:
Generally districts ask for the name of the university, the course title and course number. If additional information is requested, you may add that all our University of the Pacific courses are Graduate-Level, Professional Development courses, designed as professional growth for teachers. The University of the Pacific is accredited with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. See the section below General Information Regarding Unit/Credit for more specific information about the type of credit we offer.
Especially for Teachers Outside of California:
Information regarding graduate-level professional development units/credits with the University of the Pacific
States across the U.S. have different terminology to label this type of graduate-level professional development units/credits. It can be referred to as “professional growth,” “post-bachelor’s credit,” “continuing education,” “graduate units,” “graduate hours,” or “graduate credits.”
Regardless of the terminology, and in light of some confusion with semantics among different states, we want to make it clear that these graduate-level professional development courses are designed for professional growth and are available to teachers across the U.S. These courses will be listed on a University of the Pacific transcript. These courses are designed for salary advancement and to renew credentials. The courses are not designed towards attainment of an advanced degree. You are advised to check with your state board or attending university, prior to registering, if you wish to apply these graduate-level professional development units/credits towards attainment of specialty credentials. There are no refunds.
Information regarding Grades and Transcripts:
After you have sent in your registration and payment, Certificate of Completion, and log of work (if applicable), a confirmation of your grade will be emailed to you, from our Courses4Teachers Inc. office on University letterhead within 5 business days. You will receive an Unofficial Transcript from the University of the Pacific Registrar in about 6 – 8 weeks. A few school districts require the Unofficial Transcript from the University for graduate-level professional development units/credits and salary increment credit. Most school districts require a formal, embossed, sealed Official Transcript, which can be requested after the Unofficial Transcript arrives. Step 2: Decide How Many Credits you Wish to Register for:
FOR EVERY 15 HOURS OF PROFESSIONAL WORK YOU EARN ONE GRADUATE-LEVEL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMESTER-UNIT CREDIT
The Certificate of Completion you receive from Mindful Schools will indicate the number of hours you have put in for completion of that particular program. For every 15 hours indicated on your certificate you qualify for one credit.
You may log and submit additional hours of work you have done over the past year should you wish to earn additional credits (15 hours of logged work for every additional credit you wish).
Combined, the hours of course participation reflected on your Certificate of Completion plus your additional logged hours should equal 15 hours for one credit, 30 hours for two credits, 45 hours for three credits, 60 hours for 4 credits, etc.
Note: The year-long course automatically qualifies you for 20 credits!

MINDFUL SCHOOLS CORE ONLINE COURSES
For Course 101 you automatically qualify for 1 unit.
For Course 201 you automatically qualify for 2 units.
For Course 301 you automatically qualify for 1 unit.
You may earn additional units of credit by submitting a log of extra work (see below for explanation)
MINDFUL SCHOOLS ELECTIVE COURSES
Upon completion of any of these five elective courses listed below you automatically qualify for one graduate-level professional development semester credit.

MINDFUL SCHOOLS YEAR-LONG CERTIFICATION COURSE and the MINDFUL SCHOOLS SCHOOL-WIDE IMPLEMENTATION PROGRAM
These two Mindful programs require a minimum of 300-hours of professional work. Upon completion you may register with Courses4Teachers Inc. for up to 20 graduate-level professional development credits for each of these Mindful Schools programs. No extra work is required.
MINDFUL SCHOOLS WORKSHOPS
Each of these workshops require 1 hour of professional development work.
Upon completion of each workshop you may register for one unit only if you have a certificate of completion and have logged 14 hours of professional reading, research or curriculum development you have done on your own.
TYPICAL FAQS ABOUT THE REGISTRATION PROCESS AND HOW TO EARN EXTRA CREDITS
- Credits are only $99 per graduate-level professional development unit/credit.
- We recommend you register for credit up to 12 months after completing a Mindful Schools course. However, by special request, we may accept registrations for courses completed more than one year later, given you still have a Certificate of Completion.
- Note: If you are applying for credit for one of the Mindful Schools year-long programs, you automatically qualify for earning 20 credits.
- You may register for credit with Courses4Teachers Inc. after you complete one Mindful Schools course, or you may wait until you have completed several courses with Mindful Schools and register for credit for all of them on the same day.
- You may log additional hours of work done over the past year to qualify for additional credits.
For registration for any Mindful Schools courses you may select from any of the course titles listed below. You may not select a course title you have already taken.
Some courses have the prefix EDUP and some have PEDU. These are both prefix codes to indicate the courses are graduate-level professional development semester-unit university courses.
We know teachers multi-task so no single title will match all the work you have done. Simply select a course title that most fits with your coursework and is also the title you would like on your transcript.

What Your Log Should Look Like?
In creating your log, your first entry must be the Mindful Schools Course you participated in. On your log indicate the number of hours that are posted on your certificate.
Each log entry should be for a specific date (no range of dates allowed) and should note the specific activities you accomplished.
With each log entry we need proof/documentation of the work completed. For reading or research, this may be a written explanation of the work and how it pertains to your curriculum. Each entry should be limited to no more than 5 hours (excluding the first entry, for the Mindful Schools course).
What activities count for my log?
You may log curriculum development work, reading or research that will enhance your classroom teaching. Suggestions of excellent activities: read, researched, developed, created, previewed, revised. Example: one hour reading literature for your classroom, three hours designing lessons that integrate technology into your curriculum, one hour developing a rubric, one hour previewing a video on teaching reading, etc.
What activities do NOT count for my log?
You may not log prep work such as photocopying, organizing, sorting, classroom set-up
You may not log attendance at a workshop or conference that is not sponsored by Courses4Teachers Inc.
You may not log attendance or work done at a school workshop or meeting.
You may not count correcting/grading papers, filling out report cards, IEPs, conferencing with parents, or meetings regarding specific students.

Step 3: Registration via Courses4Teachers:
To Register and pay online:
Plan to submit the following with your registration for credit:
- Registration form
- Payment – $99 per unit
- Certificate of Completion from Mindful Schools
- Additional log of work, only if you more credits than what your certificate of completion qualifies you for.
What To Do and How To Register:
- Calculate the number of credits you are registering for based on the combined total of your Certificate, plus extra logged hours of work if you wish additional credits.
- For every 15 hours you qualify for 1-credit.
- Each course title is good for 1-4 credits.
-Therefore, if you, for example, are registering for a total of 22 credits you would register for five 4-unit courses plus one 2-unit course.
- Each course requires a separate registration form.

3. Attach a PDF or JPG of your Certificate of Completion OR Post-Workshop Handout, log, and samples of work (if applicable). The registration form only allows one attachment, so if you’re sending in more than a Certificate, save everything as one document and as a PDF (you can combine multiple PDFs here, or insert a JPG of your Certificate into your log document). This will be your Proof of Completion.
